Do I need any vaccinations for Cozumel?

The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not require any vaccinations for travel to Cozumel, Mexico. However, it is recommended that travelers be up to date on routine vaccines before traveling to any destination, as well as recommended vaccines for the specific region.

  • Chickenpox (Varicella)
  • Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DPT)
  • Flu (influenza)
  • Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR)
    • If you haven't had your adult booster, you should get it at least 2 weeks before traveling to Mexico.
    • And not just Mexico, this old bug is making a comeback in the US, and it's a vaccine that youth shot titers fade so get a booster.
  • Polio
  • Shingles
    • 50 years old and older should get the shingles vaccine.
    • If you had chickenpox as a child, you should get the shingles vaccine.
  • COVID-19
  • Hepatitis A
    • if you're older than 1 year old and traveling to Mexico, you should get this vaccine.
    • If you're older than forty years old, get it more than 2 weeks before your trip or you'll also need immune globulin (IG).
  • Hepatitis B
    • If you're younger than 60 years old and traveling to Mexico, you should get this vaccine.
  • Typhoid
    • Generally recommended for travelers to Mexico, especially if you plan to visit smaller cities or rural areas.
