All About Diving

The Diving Company

For a decade or so, the fam has been diving with Dressel Divers.

They are a well-established company operating worldwide with a great reputation, and they have been our go-to for diving in Cozumel.

How much do dives cost?

The way that I purchase the dives gets the absolute best price. I book 30 - 50 dives at a time, and it brings the cost per dive down to about $50 USD. We do 2 dives per day, for 3 days. It comes out to about $300 - $350 USD per person total for diving on a truly world-class reef system with professional dive guides. At least, that was the price in 2024. I'll be getting a fresh quote soon, but I expect little change.

What if we get weathered out?

If we get weathered out, we have a 4th day we can make an attempt at make-up dives. If we are still weathered out, they keep the dive credits on my account for future trips. I'll try to buy exactly what we need plus a couple extra dives, so I'm not out too bad if we do get weathered out. You'll only pay for the dives you actually do.

Can we rent dive gear?

Yep. You can get fins and masks, but that's not recommended. You really want those as personal items. If you rent their's it's like $12 per day. Also $12 for a BCD. They have wetsuits, dive watches, etc. for rent also.

Here's what the pricing looked like in 2024:

ItemPriceUnit
BCD$12daily
Mask & Fins$12daily
Mask$12daily
Snorkel$12daily
Wetsuit$12daily

Can I get SCUBA certified while there?

Absolutely! And it is one of the cheapest places to get certified at $480 USD per person. This includes the online course requirement for before you arrive in Cozumel, a full pool session training day, then two open water "check-out" dives on the reef. The course is done through SDI's Open Water Scuba Diving Certification program.

DON'T BUY DIRECTLY FROM SDI!!!

If you are interested in getting certified, please do not buy the course directly from SDI. Instead, you will buy the courses through Dressel Divers, who will send codes for accessing the online courses, and coordinate completion on your arrival.

If there are more than a couple people wanting to get certified, I can coordinate with Dressel Divers for best pricing and scheduling. If you are interested, please let me know ASAP so I can get that set up and you can start the online course.

How about Nitrox Certification?

Definitely! It's like $250 for the certification, but you get free nitrox fills at the resort, and some find it improves their diving experience. Again, you want to book this directly through Dressel Divers, not SDI.

Any other costs?

There are two not covered previously here:

1. The Marine Park Fee

This is a fee that goes to the marine park system in Cozumel. It is $6 USD per day, per diver.

2. Tipping

While not required, it is customary to tip the dive guides. The amount is up to you, but a good rule of thumb is $5 - $10 USD per dive.
