All About Snorkeling
What if I've never been snorkeling before?
No problem! Snorkeling is a great way to experience the underwater world without needing to be SCUBA certified, and you can even take a very cheap course to learn the basics. If you'd like to learn ahead of time, I'll show you what you need to know about:
- How to pick a mask and fins
- How to clear your mask
- How to use a snorkel
You can practice in a pool before you go!
Shore Snorkeling
You can bring or rent snorkeling gear and snorkel right off the shore at the resort. The water is clear, warm, and full of schools of tropical fish. It is shallow (in the light zone) for some distance, and the pier/dock attracts schools of pretty big fish to look at. During the times that the dive boats come and go that area can get a bit full of exhaust, but there are plenty of prime hours for poking around in there.
Offshore Snorkeling
If you want to go out to the reefs, we can book a snorkeling trip with Dressel Divers. They have a boat that goes out with the scuba divers, and include a reef guide. The cost last year was $65 USD per person for a half-day trip. Most find this experience to be well worth the cost, as you get to see the reefs and marine life in a way that is not possible (safe) from the shore.
